Community Food Workshop: Youth, Food and Climate Action

What will your ‘fair food future’ look like in 2045, and how will we get there?

We are keen to hear from younger audiences so if you are 18-30 or working in engagement with this demographic get involved.

An online workshop focused on the construction of ‘fair food futures', with a particular emphasis on the role of young people.

About this event

This online workshop invites young farmers and eaters to help design ‘fair food futures'.

Climate change is a major factor driving both inequality and transformation, with young people arguably the most unfairly affected by the social, ecological, economic and livelihood challenges that climate change inevitably brings. At the intersection of food and climate justice are important questions about how to ensure healthy soil, water and air that will protect our climate for the next generation, revitalise farming communities and mobilise the next generation of farmers, and ensure equitable access to food knowledge and education.

This workshop seeks to imagine a ‘fair food future’ where young people are empowered to define new models of food production, consumption and governance based on improved food and land affordability, skills and mentoring, inclusiveness and diversity, and health and wellbeing. Participants are invited to design pathways through which youth voices can shape more equitable outcomes at the intersection of climate action and reducing hunger.

Dr Kiah Smith, FAIR FOOD FUTURES and University of Queensland researcher
