I’m Tasch & I’m passionate about sustainable farming and feminist agroecology. I’ve volunteered on organic farms in Ireland, NZ and Portugal and recently started farming full-time at Fairy Wren Organics, a small-scale #marketgarden using regenerative methods in the Hawkesbury region. For my Masters degree in Human Geography I conducted research on women who farm in the Netherlands.

I got into farming when I was 18 and travelling in Ireland. I volunteered as a #WWOOFer on organic homesteads and I was inspired by the farmers’ way of life and their ability to live in a way that takes care of the Earth. I felt hopeful witnessing their way of life that is deeply interconnected with the environment, rather than being disconnected from natural processes as I had been growing up in the city. I was excited about composting and seeing how waste can build fertility and life, rather than being an environmental problem.
I’ve volunteered on #organicfarms in the 10 years since and was also the veggie-box coordinator at Thoughtful Foods Food Co-Operative. For my Master’s thesis I conducted research on women who farm in the Netherlands and was further inspired by agroecological farming methods and the incredible women at the forefront of the #sustainablefarming movement.

Our organic market garden at Fairy Wren Organics couldn’t be more different from industrial agriculture!
We are a #smallscalefarm and rely mostly on fossil-fuel free hand tools. We grow a huge diversity of delicious crops, whereas industrial agriculture is often grown in monoculture and picked unripe for storage and travel over long distances. We are hyper local and know our community members, selling within a 10km radius of our land, with extremely low food miles. We use regenerative methods that improve soil fertility and biological activity, rather than degrading the soil as industrial agriculture often does. We seek to grow food in a way that takes care of our environment, our communities and our health. Our approach to farming is holistic and regenerative rather than extractive.

"We are proud to grow nutrient dense and incredibly delicious food for our community"
