Ryan & Rebecca (R & R Roosters)

For every egg-laying hen that hatches, a rooster will also hatch - these roosters are considered a waste product by the egg industry and majority of them will be destroyed at just 1 day old.

We are Ryan & Rebecca of R & R Roosters and on our small farm in Western Sydney we are purchasing the day old roosters (aka: cockerels), growing them out over 16-20 weeks and processing them all here on our farm, to produce an amazingly full flavoured, traditional, heritage style, slow growing, meat chicken.

Favourite Job on the Farm:

Getting the day old chicks settled into the brooder - I could watch them all day!!

Tool we can’t live without:

Can we call our family a ‘Tool’???

Without them we could have never gotten this farm off the ground. They help us with everything from working with us in the abattoir, building & repairing essential equipment right through to feeding our kids when we are working late...they are absolutely invaluable.

Industrial Farming VS what we do:

I guess the obvious difference is that we are utilising a wasted bi- product of industrial farming.

Another difference is, unlike most industrial farms Ryan & I do everything (apart from the help of a couple of family members).

From feeding, cleaning, processing, packaging, marketing & social media - it’s all 100% done by us and we always intend to keep it that way which also means this will always stay a small-scale, genuinely family-run farm.
