The Young Farmers Connect magazine is a provocative food system publication filled with the voices, thoughts, dreams and creative spirit of those in our community with a connection to the land.

our independent publication is out now !

About the Cover Image :

Young Farmers Connect  called on the courageous and committed women that care and nurture so much of our farmland to share a selfie straight from the field. These faces came shining back and proudly speak for the women who grow our food, run businesses, research, lead, inspire and shape our agricultural industries.

The images that make up this mosaic have been captured on the hashtag #thechangingfaceoffarming along with the stories of what inspires them to grow food, farm and support a fair food system.

Featuring Tanya Massy : researcher, writer and inspirator.  A self proclaimed lifelong apprentice of farming, Tanya is an influential and respected ambassador for young farmers and regenerative farming.   While her academic expertise spans Development, Indigenous Studies and a Masters in Agricultural Science her thought leadership extends across urban, rural and remote farm productions engaging communities in landscape management and food systems.

The aim of the publication is to capture a year in the culture shift of food systems disruption, creating a shared history of the changing challenges we face, progress we make and discussions we are having together across the country.
We hope this magazine is both provocative and a demonstration of radical optimism
— young farmers connect

Young Farmers Connect are thrilled to launch our very own independent annual magazine. A completely volunteer run initiative our vision is to create a yearly publication focussing on food systems issues and farming culture.

This year we are dedicating these 160 pages to elevating and celebrating the roles and voices of women.

We have delved deeply into the worlds of women - from those who are passionately driving the fair food movement, building resilient communities, exploring suburban farming and feeding their community. Women who are tackling social isolation, supply chains,  celebrating Indigenous culture and creating pathways for new and young farmers who are joining the wave of folks returning to the land.

These women who farm challenge us to reimagine our understanding of what a farmer looks like - and join a swelling chorus of voices calling for a radical shift in our attitudes toward agriculture and demanding action to combat climate change - while  demonstrating that they are not waiting to get started.

It was a priority for us was to collaborate with an Australian printer that shared our values and who were committed to environmental responsibility and so it was a natural choice to produce this publication with Printgraphics (Printgreen). Printgraphics are proudly accredited with the International ISO 14001 – Certified Environmental Management standard and are one of only a handful of truly ‘green’ printers in the country.

Media by AgWe

Young Farmers Connect recognise the value of telling stories and when we needed a quick video for our publication launch AgWe answered the call.

AgWe helps farmers build their brand and identity by showcasing their sustainable farming practices and helping producers get recognised for their achievements and rewarded for their environmental work.

They connect farmers with their customers and allow businesses to sustainably source their food and raw material from Australia’s best regenerative, holistic, natural, and sustainable farms.

Acknowledging the huge support from our friends and partners

It is with great gratitude that we reflect on the amazing opportunity in 2020 to co-create the special feature issue on ‘young farmers’ with the amazing team at Sowing Seeds Magazine who provided us with the inspiration, foundation and motivation to create our own publication.
